A Creative Journey: Downton Abbey Ladies

Adesso che è passato abbastanza tempo e sono finalmente riuscita a "disintossicarmi" dalla macchina da cucire, posso iniziare a mostrarvi il "passo passo" di un mega regalo natalizio fatto a dicembre.
Sia io che mia mamma siamo state fan appassionate della meravigliosa serie Downton Abbey. Splendidi luoghi (North England, of course), splendide atmosfere, splendidi abiti. E attori strepitosi.
Così ho deciso di riprodurre gli abiti delle cinque protagoniste principali: la moglie del conte di Grantham, le tre figlie e la nonna.

The right time has passed, and now I'm ready to show you the "Creative Journey" for the realization of a huge Christmas gift, last december. 
Both my mother and I have been great fans of the beautiful Downton Abbey Series. Spectacular places (North England, of course), splendid moods, splendid garments. And wonderful actors.
So I decided to recreate the dresses of the five main characters: the Countess of Grantham, her three daughters and their grandmother, Her Ladyship the Dowager Countess of Grantham (a great Maggie Smith)

Step 1: decidere tra i tantissimi abiti quelli che rappresentavano meglio ciascun personaggio. Arduo in quanto per alcuni è stato uno strazio fare una scelta tanto sono belli.

Step #1: decide which dresses to make, the ones that represented better each character. Tough task , as they're all so beautiful!

 Step 2: "destrutturazione" degli abiti - capire i materiali che mi servivano per ciascuno. Abiti, sotto-abiti, guanti, cappelli ecc...

Step #2: "destructurate" of each outfit. I needed to understand which materials to use. Clothes, under-garments, gloves, hats....

Step 3: raid nel mio negozio di stoffe preferito con l'elenco. Chiaramente essere di fronte a veri tessuti obbliga a fare modifiche ai piani: non c'è stato verso di trovare un tulle color borgogna già ricamato con fiori dorati (in scala!) esattamente abbinabile ad un raso sempre borgogna!

Step#3: raid into my favourite fabric shop with my list. Obvioulsy, being in front of real fabrics has forced me to make changes to the original plans. It was impossible (as I had imagined) to find a burgundy tulle ebroidered with small golden flowers that could match exactly a burgundy satin!

Step 4: preparazione delle basi. Ho scelto il modello di bambola che mi sembrava più adatto (modello "angelo Tilda-con-naso", non il mio preferito ma era perfetto per braccia, gambe e non ha i fianchi troppo accentuati degli altri modelli), tagliato cucito ed imbottito i corpi, cucito un paio di mutandoni per ciascuna. Ciascun paio si abbinerà all'abito grazie a piccoli particolari decorativi.

Step #4: preparation of the dolls. I chose the doll pattern that seemed the best to me (it's the "Tilda-angel-with-nose" pattern. Not my favourite one, if I have to be honest, but it's perfect for legs and arms and has smaller hips than the other ones). I cut and sewed all the pieces, stuffed them - extremely boring - and then sewed each of them a pair of edwardian-style panties. Each pair to match the dress with some small embellishments.
