Dolls of the World - China

My best memories from China

We're still talking of China as Saturday it's gonna start the Chinese New Year.
So, here you are the little Tilda back from the Kingdom of the Dragon.
For her I wanted to use some white silk  I bought there (in my souvenir bag, when I travel, among little presents for family and friends, a nice object for my home to recall the travel, some sand/shells/rocks taken during the trip, there's always some fabric, ribbons, beads or some other craft materials).
In China I had bought two kinds of silk, one in red with dragons and one in white with some little circular patterns. So I used some scraps from this one to create an evening dress, to which I have addes beads and sequins.
But first of all, some pics from this trip (selecting pics is always the hardest part!)
These are some pictures taken in Shanghai, Beijing, Xi'an, Guilin, Da-Xu, the river Li and the Great Wall.

From China, here you are this little miss (a jazz singer in the Twenties French ex-concession?) with a traditional dress without sleeves and with a korean collar.

The dress is in white silk on which have been added transparent beads and light red sequins to stress the circular patterns of the fabric. The closure of the dress is made with two grey-transparent baguette-beads and a charm in silver with an ideogram.

Hair is worn in a high twist in which are inserted three small red and silver lanterns. On her wrist she wears a couple of bracelets in grey-transparent baguette-beads and her earrings are made of two transparent crystals and a small red bead.

What do you think about her?? (unfortunately I haven't been able to make her pose in front of the world panel....)

The sun that is shining in these last days has been really a tonic for me. I usually prefer the cold seasons, the golden autumn colours in a warm afternoon, the cold and stingy air in the winter mornings, the fog, which gives a touch of mystery to everything and the snow, that muffles all the city noises. Summer and spring, instead, to me are just too much hot. But, after so many days in which the sky was covered with dark clouds, the light of these mornings has brought to me happiness (also because the temperature did not rise much...)
And so, how I long for new beginnings, for new projects, for new fresh spring colours!

MLP Neclace (Apple Fritter Pony, green, yellow ribbon)

MLP Neclace (Big McIntosh Pony, red, green ribbon)
This week starts the Chinese Year of the Horse. I thought a bit.... horse....spring....soft colours..... a little of searching on the web and that's it! From the Lab of the Orange Cat here you are the latest news: My Little Pony Necklaces.
I have owned for years a collection of about 200 of these sweet colourful ponies. I still own it, but for lacking of space, it is in a couple of boxes in th attic. And these necklaces remind me of the days in which, as a child I used to play with them (isn't there in all of us a bit of those childhood days waiting for the right moment to pop up with all the memories it brings???)

MLP Neclace (Lily Valley Pony, purple, lilac ribbon)
MLP Neclace (Applejack Pony, orange, blue ribbon)
Allora, buon anno del Cavallo a tutti! Che porti felicità e fortuna.

So, Happy Year of the Horse to everyone. Hope it brings happiness and luck!

Dolls of the World - Spain

My best memories from Spain
From the royal court of Versailles, you just need to cross the Pyrenees to find yourself in Spain.
I have seen much of Spain, starting from Andalusia (here you'll find some info about that beautiful journey), and then continuing with a week in Barcelona and surroundings and two long weekends, one in the mudejar city of Zaragoza and the other one in Madrid, among churros, tapas and stunning museums. People who know me are perfectly aware of the fact that, among all, I love the medieval art and architecture, so I could not resist doing a trip in the main cities of Castilla y Leon (Segovia, Avila and Salamanca) to which we added the ancient Toledo, in which it's impossible not to get lost in the narrow streets of the old jewish neighbour, with the muslim-influenced synagogues. There are still some places in Spain thet I'd love to visit, first of all the countryside of Castilla La Mancha and the city of Santiago de Compostela.

From Spain, here you are this little flamenco dancer, who wears a dress composed of a white bodice, a long skirt in red lace and a black mantilla with long fringes. The bodice is in a white operated fabric, with no sleeves and straight neckline.
The skirt is composed of five layers of red lace with a small train on the back. To add  a touch of glamour (and avoid the "seventies-souvenir-doll" look) the skirt has been decorated with a bunch of small red sequins. On her waist she wears a large black velvet sash as a belt.

The ensemble is completed by a mantilla in black lace with very long fringes. On the border of this shawl a line of black sequins and small golden beads has been added to give a touch of brightness.

Her long black hair has been tied up softly on the shoulder. She wears simple golden circle earrings and has a red rose on her head made of a glass shaped bead.

This time also the original doll has been modified quite heavily, I was not that happy with the final result....

Dolls of the World - France

Buongiorno a tutti e buon anno!

Hello and happy new year to all af you! I have been terribly lazy, lately, but I needed to recharge my batteries after a 2013 end that has been a bit distressful.
But now I'm ready with a new project that since a liìonge time was waiting for... time to be developed as it deserved.
Do you remember that some time ago I started to show you some little Tilda dolls that I made after my travels, dressed to recall the Country I had just visited? Well, some of them had dresses that didn't quite convince me. Ad some are still waiting to be dressed, like the little russian girl....

During the holidays I have fount the Ninimomo world. They're wonderful crafters thet each year prepare a serie of Barbie dolls dressed with dresses from all over the world. If you love these kind of things DON'T go and see their website (http://www.ninimomo.com/): you could end crying for days longing either to have (but the prices are really high) or to be able to create something like that!
But this gave a new impulse to my project: I have taken all my dolls and decided things are to be made properly.

The first one I worked on (but I had not such a great job to do, honestly), was little Marie Antoinette, a lovely memory from a weekend in the Versailles palace. The dress was not so bad, I loved the fleurs-de-lys patterned fabric but.... looking at her I could not recall the splendour of the court feasts. And she wore no jewellery: the Queen of France wouldn't have gone that cheap!
So I modified the gown , I added some decorations on the border, the hair has been styled in a fake wig instead of being just tied up in a ribbon and I created a headdress with flowers and feathers. I also made a long pearl necklace with earrings. What do you think???

Marie Antoinette wears a stunning ball gown in a pastel-blue fleur-de-lys patterned cotton. The skirt is composed of four layers: one in white plain cotton, two in white and blue organza to give volume to the ensemble and one in the main fabric.

The border of the skirt, in a dark blue braided ribbon has been decorated with aurora boralis small glass flowers with a center made of a blue bead.

The neckline has been decorated with the same braided ribbon and the sleeves end with white lace.
Marie Antoinette wears a long ivory rice-grain pearls necklace and matching simple earrings.

The long white hair has been  styled in a high XVIII century wig and has been adorned with a headdress made of a large blue flower, a couple of white marabu feathers and small white pearls.

Decisamente orgogliosa e contenta, non vi sembra?
