Quest'anno a Natale regalo.... (2)

Voi abbinate i personaggi.
Coraggio!!

Mix & match pot holders

This is another small idea for a little present: the mix & match pot holders.
For (desperate and non desperate) housewives, for the friend who loves to bake cakes and treats, the pot holders are indispensable kitchen allies.
This year you create the set: I have chosen a lovely fabric with reindeer, santas, xmas trees and snowmen, a little shabby and a little distressed and I have matched it with a deep burgundy with small stars.
You choose the carachters to match.
Come on, let's begin!!.

Quest'anno a Natale regalo.....

Il seems that everything is going back to normal.
So, let's start with some pics of  what I have created this year. Maybe someone is looking dor the right idea for a small present and some crafted objects, created in a limited number to have the chance to realize each of them with love and care is a perfect idea, don't you think?

Snowman wreaths
Gingerbread wreaths
These are the Chirstmas wreaths. Last year I proposed and experiment of a couple of weraths with a snowman. They had a big success and I have added some charachters this year on the woolen wreath: we have the snowman (again), the gingerbread, the reindeer Rudolph with its bright red nose and the holly fairy.
Do you like them?

Fairy wreaths
Reindeer wreaths

My favourite is the fairy: I love this Tilda pattern and I loved sewing them in christmassy fabrics and a pile scarf!!

very black friday

... tempismo perfetto.
Pazienza,  you take what you have and you learn to make do.

Comin' soon, stay tuned!!

Dolls of the World - Uzbekistan

Without realizing it, October flew away and it's already November.
Maybe I havent realized it because it's still reasonably warm, there's so much light all around that just stepping out on the balcony is enough to breathe the golden atmosphere that (with some degrees more) usually September gives us.
And I haven't enjoyed much, this beloved month, running after so many things and so many appointments. Today it's the first day since I don't remember when that I can just relax, think about me and my home. I removed all the Halloween decorations and I thought of updating the blog with one of my latest creations: Lady Uzbekistan.

Premessa.

A little premise. This summer, even with the extreme tireness and lazyness that filled my days I completed a little project (that while in progress grew bigger and bigger). In the begining my small Tildas - Dolls of the World, once realized, were hung by a small hoop on their back on a wall in my craft room, just below the world map. But that disn't convince me at all. It was one of the easy and fast solutions I often go for when I'm too impatient to wait for the right idea.

But I decided they deserve something better, also because it's a small collection which I'm growing fonder every day more: looking for the right idea, inspiration, the more suitable fabrics, colours, headpieces and accessories to recreate the memory of a place... and it's all hand made just the way I like it (buying a doll in every visited country hasn't the same meaning, has it??)
So I bought some Ribba little shelves (IKEA), the ones used to display frames on, narow and with a little "dent" not to make the content slip. And for each of my ladies I creates a little stand with wood with the name of the country and iron-wire to make them stand.
Ans, as my grandma says, "do and undo it's all work" (dunno how to translate it) I started sewing again the arms (the pattern I used gave the impression od many crucified dolls....), tried to fix some details I didn't like... and sew them also some lingerie! If you have to do a job, better doing it the most perfectly you can, no matter the time you need, right?

Uzbekistan Tilda Doll
So, here you are Lady Uzbekistan.
She wears an ensamble made of a dark blue chiffon blouse and a skirt in an ikat printed cotton (I bought it there, I had already decided that the colours should have been blue, dark blue and turquoise).
The blouse, wich is very short has been enriched on the hems with metallic turquoise sequins and on the cuffs with transparent and blue seed beads.
Uzbekistan Tilda Doll - blouse closeup

Uzbekistan doll - skirt and belt
The skirt is very simple, lightly flared and is kept by a high silver metallic fabric belt at which two chains are hung with a bunch of round opaque silver charms.
Uzbekistan doll - belt
Uzbekistan doll - earrings
The same charms have been used for the earrings, while the traditional hat has been sewn in a thick dark blue cotton and decorated with very small round silver seed beads and a thin chain. The back of the hat gives way to a silver net long veil.
Uzbekistan doll - underskirt
She also wears a light blue underskirt with a lace border which helps keeping the skirt in place and a pair of coulotte in a skin tone lace. She has no breast so I can spare myself the pain of making a very small bra when the blouse or the dress has a deep neckline.

What do you think?
Very soon I will be posting a tutorial to make this kins of tiny lingerie!!!

Nighty-night Pixie

This year so many things happened. Some not so good, some others that have brought a deep joy. I'm takling about the birth of Federico, my sister's baby boy. I have thought a lot whether and how to talk about these very private things on a blog, which is public. And I decided to write very little, not because I don't want to but because I feel that in this "social" world, sometimes people share a news or a picture not because they want to share it but because they want others to see it and to talk about it (and please, let's pretend we don't read some kind of comments.....)
Maybe I'll change my mind but right now, as a form of respect, I don't want to post pictures of the little pixie that everyday make us all so happy.

Nighty-night pixie

Nighty-night pixie
But I'm going to show you this other pixie: it's the nighty-night pixie and I made it to be hung close to his crib (not that he needs any incouragment to sleep....)

Nighty-night pixie
It's a classic Tilda pixie with a white and blue night-gown, a long night cap and turquoise felt wings.
With one hand he keeps a pillow, with the other one he covers a yawn..... goodnight!

My trip along the Silk Road

It's been a long time and I had thought of dedicating the summer to tell you about my beautiful trip, but in the end I haven't. This year it's been really strange, I felt a very deep weariness like never before. I was so weary I could barely do the indispensable. Maybe it's been the hot and sultry weather or maybe the last two monts of school which have been so frenzy, but I had energy for nothing.

My destination this year has been Uzbekistan.
It's been going on for a while that I watched the catalogues or pictures and I found myself dreaming of the mythical cities along the Silk Road, so I decided to go there. I went during the Easter holidays (we've had a long time off this year) also to avoid the Central Asia hot summer days.

We were a small and quite homogeneus group, very nice people with a young but very prepared guide. After a not so long flight (about 5 hours) I found myself in a fairytale land.
Everywhere the blue and turquoise tiles sparkling in the sun. I love this colour and finding myself wrapped inside has been wonderful. A hue that gives me calm and a clear mind.

Blue and turqoise tiles
Turchese, turchese e ancora turchese.

The Shah-i-Zinda necropolis, in Samarkand is a precious stone. Sturdy sand-coloured buildings, smooth and sweetly decorated by tiles. Turquoise, turquoise and turquoise again.

In some spots you can see the passing of time, like in Shakhrisabz, where Timur's palace has been attacked by the wind.
Or in some medrassas' courtyards, abandoned, with damaged walls.

The landscape, changing from the red sands of the Kyzyl-kum desert (name which seems to be taken from "The Lord of the Rings") to the rounded hills in the eastern part of the country. By the way, this is how I imagine Mongolia. Maybe one day I'll be able to check.

Reaching Samarkand

I leave you with a picture that I like very much. One of those pict taken at the last minute, with a particular that catches your eye when the attention is almost entirely occupied on something else. A street of Tashkent, like many others. An abandoned dome rising fron humble houses. The turquoise of the tiles which stands out among walls that have seen better days. A relic from the past but which seemed so "right", I can't explain it.
Looking at this corner my heart felt warmer.

Please...

I know that from a meteorological point of view, I can't complain about this summer. But.... what's the use of raining and being bad weather if the temperature doesn't go down???
Please, let's have some wind.....a lot of wind, strong and refreshing the air!
Yesterday afternoon there was a moment in which it seemed that the sky would open and let out a downpour (it obviously didn't happen, at least in Milan... mischievious weather!). It made me laugh that I ran to open all the windows to enjoy some fresh air while in the houses in front of me many people were running to close them!
I'm really thinking of spending the next summer in the Great North....

Dolls of the World - Morocco

What a summer!
I came back to Italy after a small trip to the Flanders among medieval cities, wonderful museums, a lot of mussels and bike tours along the windmills-canals, only to find myself wrapped in the suffocating heat of August. I spent a whole week in total laziness with only the strength to read (finally!!) and plan things I wouldn't have the will to do. This week is a bit better, alse because there's a little wind.
In my summer bucket list there are the posts about the Dolls of the World still missing. Considering the extreme heat of these days... let's fly to Morocco!!

Vedremo.
My best memories form Morocco
I went some years ago, in April, considering the climate. And considering that outside August it was difficult for me to take more than a week of holiday I decided to limit the trip to the Imperial Cities. I went with my mum and we visited Marrakech (lovely, it deserves more than the time we've been able to spend there), Fés, Meknés, Rabat and Casablanca.Of these two just a little bit and among them the ever-present roman remains, this time Volubilis.
It's been a very beautiful trips, 'though I was expecting cities full of palaces like the andalusan ones. And since I came back I keep telling myself I have to go back to see the south, with cities nestled in thedesert. Let's see.

Moroccan Tilda Doll

Here you are the little Moroccan Tilda.
She wears a long fitting gown in a delicate shade of pink silk and decorated with transparent-pink little sequins. Over the gown she wears a kaftan in pink and brown paisley printed chiffon and wide open sleeves.
All the edges have been enriched with a golden trim and the kaftan is completed with a high brown satin belt with a buckle in golden filigree.

Bye, Morocco, hope to see ya soon !!!
