New Year's Eve fashion inspiration

Si sta avvicinando la festa che tra tutte quante proprio non mi piace.
The feast I dread most is getting near!

Adoro il periodo natalizio, la casa che viene decorata e assume un'atmosfera più calda e intima. Amo il profumo dei biscotti alle spezie che sforno in questo periodo. Amo vedere le strade piene di luci, mi sembra che sprigionino una certa magia. E mi fa tristezza sentire sempre più persone che questa magia non la sentono .
Invece quello che proprio non sopporto è l'ultimo dell'anno. Sarà perchè non mi piacciono le fini (preferisco gli inizi) o sarà perchè è una sera in cui ci si deve divertire per forza, e divertirsi vuol dire (quasi sempre) ballare.

I adore the Christmas time, the home being decorated and assuming a warm and cozy atmosphere. I love the sweet spice-cookies perfume coming out of the oven. I love to see the streets full of bright lights, I can almost touch the magic they spread. And I'm sorry for all the people that say they don't feel this magic, they just would prefer to wake up on January the 7th.
But what I really don't love is New Year's Eve. Maybe that's because I don't like endings (I prefer beginnings) or maybe because it's a night in which you have to enjoy yourself even when you don't want to, and enjoying means (in this world) to go dancing.

Però mi piace sognare e ogni tanto sogno di partecipare anche io a una meravigliosa festa. Che ovviamente sarebbe molto diversa da quelle attualmente disponibili. Sarebbe in un castello, innanzitutto. E io indosserei un abito strepitoso, lungo, senza spalline (nei miei sogni potrei indossare senza problemi un abito senza spalline....) Avrei i tacchi altissimi (nei miei sogni le scarpe con i tacchi altissimi sono comode come ciabatte: non le senti nemmeno!). Avrei una borsettina piccola piccola, nella quale, però ci starebbe tutto quello che serve senza pesare una tonnellata. E ovviamente porterei una piccola corona. Piccola, ma pur sempre una corona.
Non credo che ballerei, probabilmente non mi piacerebbe nemmeno nei sogni, ma sarebbe ugualmente una splendida festa.

But I like to dream and in my dreams, sometimes I attend to a wonderful party. Which obviously would be very different from the ones available these days. First of all it would be in a castle. And I would wear a wonderful gown, long and strapless (in my dreams I could wear a strapless dress without any problem....) I would wear super high-heels shoes (in my dreams, high heels would leave your feet as comfortable as they were slippers). I would carry a tiny clutch bag (it wouldn't be uncomfortable and would be big enough to contain all the necessary without weighing a ton). And I would obviously wear a small crown. Small but real. 
I don't think I would dance but it would be a wonderful night the same.

Ok, basta sognare.
Visto che magari qualcuna di voi a ballare al castello ci va davvero, ecco qualche outfit che ho elaborato, pensando a quello che mi piacerebbe indossare per sentirmi super speciale!

 Per sentirmi come Ariel, un abito lungo verde acqua, scarpe e clutch lilla, una collana con una conchiglia e un fiore rosso fra i capelli.

 Per sentirmi come Aurora, un abito rosa scuro lungo, orecchini in cristalli rosa e un pettinino con delicati fiori. Scarpe e clutch in crema e oro.

 Per sentirmi come Belle un abito lunghissimo giallo, con scarpe e clutch oro. Due orecchini a forma di rosa rossa e una coroncina in oro e perle.

To feel like Belle, I would wear a very long yellow dress with gold shoess and clutch. A couple of red roses earrings and a small gold and pearls tiara.

 Per essere come Cenerentola, un abito lungo a colonna azzurro polvere con collana e orecchini a forma di stelle scintillanti. Sandali e clutch neri.

To feel like sweet Cinderella, a powder blue long column dress with star-shaped and glittering necklace and earrings. Black sandals and clutch.

 Per sentirmi come Elsa, un abito azzurro e scarpe e clutch argentate. In testa una corona scintillante e un ciondolo a forma di fiocco di neve.

To feel like Elsa, a blue dress with silver hilgh heels shoes and clutch. A sparkling tiara and a snowflake-shaped pendant to complete the outfit.

Per sentirmi come Jasmine un vestito turchese che copre una sola spalla, sandali e clutch neri. I gioielli sono un paio di orecchini a goccia dorati e un sacco di sottili braccialetti dello stesso colore.

To feel like Jasmine, a turquoise single-strap dress. Black clutch and sandals. Big drop gold earrings and a lot of thin golden bangles.

 Per sentirmi come Malefica un abito lungo nero con scarpe nere e viola e una clutch viola scuro. Un cerchietto di fiori neri e due orecchini brillanti verde acido.

 To feel like Maleficent a long elegant blak dress with purple and black shoes and a deep purple clutch. Some black flowers in my hair and a couple of sparkling acid green studs.

Per sentirmi come una regina, la Regina di Cuori, un vestito rosso, clutch a forma di cuore e sandali neri. Una corona dorata e una collana smpre oro, molto importante.

To feel like a queen, the Queen of Hearts, a long red dress, a heart-shaped clutch and black sandals. A golden tiara and a golden important necklace.

Per sentirmi come Rapunzel, un vestito lungo in satin viola. Fiori rosa fra i capelli e orecchini a chandelier. Una clutch e sandali (con treccia) rosa cipiria.

To feel like Rapunzel, a long satin purple dress, with pink flowers in my hair and long chandelier earrings. Delicate pink sandals and clutch as well.

Per sentirmi come Biancaneve un elegante abito blu oceano con sandali e clutch gialli.
Anello e orecchini a goccia rosso rubino.

To feel like Snow White an elegant ocean blue dress, with yellow sandals and clutch. Ruby red ring and drop earrings.

Per sentimi come Tiana un meraviglioso abito verde palude con doppia gonna. Sandali e clutch crema, orecchini a grappolo di foglie e un fiore in madreperla con brillantini per i capelli.

To feel like Tiana, a beautiful dark green gown. Cream sandals and clutch, long green leaves earrings and a glittery pearly flower for the hair complete the outfit.

Infine, se voglio sentirmi come Ursula, un abito nero con gonna vaporosa in tulle, sandali argentati e clutch lilla a forma di conchiglia. Cerchietto e orecchini con stelle marine in argento e brillanti.


Finally, to feel like Ursula, a black dress with a fluffy tulle gown, silver sandals and a seashell-shaped lilac clutch. Earrings and hairband with a silver sparkling sea stars.

Il mio primo vero e proprio giorno di vacanze. Dedicato a questo film, che aspettavo da un bel po'.
Non male, ma troppe canzoni, troppe, troppe, troppe!

My first real day of vacation. I have dedicated it to this film, which I was really waiting for. Not bad, but too many songs, too many, too many. Seriously!

A volte proprio ci vuole!!

Finalmente, dopo qualche settimana in cui forse ho un po' esagerato, mi sono concessa una pigrissima domenica. Non che non abbia fatto nulla, però ho sistemato la mia casa con ritmi lentissimi. Ho finalmente eliminato tutta la carta dalla scrivania, ho messo al loro posto tutte le stoffe (non voglio vedere nemmeno un pezzettino di stoffa fino all'anno prossimo!!), ho sistemato i cassetti del craft e ho lavato le tende.
E poi, le canzoni natalizie cantate da Bruce, una tazza di tè rosso con biscottini alle mandorle, una candela profumata e una buona lettura, per un po' di relax.
A volte ci vuole proprio.

Finally, after a few weeks in which I have maybe exaggerated a bit, I have treated myself with a very lazy Sunday. It's not that I haven't done anything, but I have put in order my home sooooo slowly. I have finally eliminated all the paper from my desk, I have put in the right place all the fabrics (I don't want to see a single scrap of fabric until next year!), I have put order in the craft area and I have washed the curtains.
And then, the Christmas songs sung by Bruce, a cup of red tea with some almond biscuits, a scented candle and a good book for a bit of relax.
Sometimes it's right what it takes!!

Io l'avrei intitolata "Capodanno".
Forse però ai tempi di Ungaretti non c'era la tradizione odiosa di dover per forza a tutti i costi inventarsi qualcosa per festeggiare il nuovo anno. Forse bastava la semplicità degli affetti a rendere speciale questo nuovo inzio.
Però oggi è così che mi sento.

I would have given it the title "New Year's Eve".
But maybe when Ungaretti wrote this poetry there wasn't the terrible tradition of always finding new ways to celebrate (even when you don't mean it) the arrival of the new year. Maybe the simplicity of the people you loved was enough to make the new beginning special.
But today I feel like this.

Christmas Lab - Snowflake Angels

Non ho saputo resistere.
Quest'anno avevo in mente di fare solo fatine e angeli bianchi e azzurri, con delicati fiocchi di neve, con pizzi, sciarpe e cappottini per stare caldi mentre giocano nella neve.
Sarà il nuovo film della Disney che fra poco arriverà al cinema (Frozen), sarà l'ultimo libro del mondo Tilda (Tildas Vintergleder), nel quale candidi orsi polari contendono i ghiacci ad angeli pattinatori, saranno i colori che adoro (bianco, azzurro e grigino, che fanno così inverno)....
Poi invece, al momento di tagliare e cucire, sono tornata ai colori più caldi natalizi del verde e bianco.
Ma un angolino della mia mente continuava a pensare ai fiocchi di neve che cadono leggeri...

Così, l'altra sera, ho deciso al volo per questi due angeli, il primo con un vestito avorio e due gonne sovrapposte, una bianca e una in pizzo pianco con delicati pois.
Il bordino del vestito è in oro e ha una bella sciarpona in morbida lana bianca.

 La sua amica, invece ha un vestito azzurro polvere, una gonna in azzurro con i fiocchi di neve e anche lei una seconda gonna in pizzo a pois.
Il bordo dell'abito è un nastrino morbido simil pelliccia e anche lei ha la sua bella sciarpa bianca.

I could not resist.
My idea for this winter was to create only blue and white angels and fairies, with delicate snowflake dresses, laces, soft scarves and coat to keep them warm while playing on the snow.
Maybe it's the new Disney film coming soon at the cinema (Frozen), maybe it's the last Tilda book (Tildas Vintergleder) in which white polar bears play on the ice with skating angels, maybe it's just the delicate colours that I love and that are so winter-ish!!!
So last night I created these two angels, the first one ha an ivory dress and two skirts, one in white cotton and the other one in a white polka dots lace. The border of the dress is in gold ribbon and she wears a big soft white scarf.

Her friend, instead has a powder blue dress, a bue skirt with snowflakes and a second one in the same white polka dots lace. The border of her dress is a white fake fur and she also has a big scarf.

 Vederle entrambe, con queste gonne vaporose, e i colori delicati mi riempie di gioia!!!
  
I can't express my happiness in seeimg them together with their fluffy gowns and delicate colours!!!! 

Christmas Lab - Lady Poinsettia

Eccomi qui, di nuovo dopo qualche giorno di latitanza.
Oggi vi presento uno dei lavori che mi hanno dato più soddisfazione quest'anno: l'angelo Lady Poinsettia.
Volevo lavorare un po' sul solito angelo Tilda, quello che fra tutti preferisco, e renderlo un po' più in tema con la stagione che arriva.
Allora ho pensato ad un abito stile '700, in velluto (bordeaux, verde scuro o marrone), con sottogonna in beige decorata da piccoli fiocchi di neve. Sia lungo la scollatura che lungo l'apertura della gonna il profilo è una passamaneria dorata.
I capelli sono lunghi e biondi e raccolti in morbide code che appoggiano sulle spalle. Ovviamente hanno le alucce, bianche, se no che angeli sarebbero??
Ciò che dà loro il nome sono delle stelle di Natale tutte luccicanti che tengono fra le mani.
Anche se il velluto è stato un incubo da lavorare (viste anche le dimensioni ridotte), queste signorine eleganti mi piacciono molto!!!

Three Lady Poinsettia

Here we are again!
Today I want to introduce to you one of the crafts that gave me more joy in doing them: the Lady Poinsettia Angel.
I wanted to work on my best loved Tilda angel, but I wanted to give them a special Christmas touch.
So I thought of a XVIII century style dress, in velvet (burgundy, dark green or brown) with a gown in a delicate ivory with some small snowflakes. On the borders it has a line of gold ribbon.

Their hair is long and blonde and tied up in two soft ponytails. They obviously have a pair of white wings, otherwise they wouldn't be anges, would they??
What gives them their name is a beautiful glittery poinsettia that they carry in their hands.

I hated to sew velvet, also due to the small dimension of the dress, but on the whole, i totally love these elegant ladies, wouldn't you???

Christmas Lab - Snowman Country Wreath (limited edition)

Frosty the Snowman, was a jolly happy soul

He was made of snow but the children know how he came to life one day...

Per creare la giusta atmosfera natalizia, mentre lavoro nel mio piccolo laboratorio, spesso ascolto canzoni di Natale. Adoro le canzoni di Natale (vero, Betti???)... Sia le "Traditional Carols", più serie, che le canzoni per bambini, gioiose che  rallegrano il cuore. Mi piace trovare le versioni dei Big della musica, che hanno prestato la loro voce a queste melodie magiche e senza tempo.

In these days, in which I'm working for Christmas in my small lab, I often listen to Christmas songs to create the right feeling. I love Christmas songs, both the traditional Carols and the joyful children songs. I love to look for the ones sung by the Big Artists (you know like Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, but also Sting, Zucchero, and Bruce...) who gave their voices to these magic melodies.

Ieri sera guardavo due nude ghirlande di polistirolo, due gomitoli di ciniglia (acquisto impulsivo e chiaramente sbagliato....) e piano piano si è fatta strada nella mia mente la canzone di Frosty, l'omino di neve. E' stato un lampo. Per prima cosa ho avvolto la ciniglia, che fa un bell'effetto "agnellino", sulle ghirlandine. Poi ho tagliato due omini di neve in cotone bianco, li ho imbottiti e ho tirato fuori lane ed uncinetto per fare due sciarpine.
Quando sono andata a letto sulla scrivania troneggiavano queste due ghirlande, in attesa del tocco finale: i bottoncini di legno, i nasi di feltro e i fiocchetti un po' rustici, per enfatizzare il sapore country della ghirlanda.

Yesterday evening I was looking at two bare polystyrene wreaths, two chenille balls (impulsive and obviously wrong purchase....) and in my mind it started to sound "Frosty the Snowman". It was immediate! First of all I wrapped the wreaths with the yarn, then I cut out of white cotton fabric two little snowmen, filled them with batting and I took out of the magic box some wool and my crochet hook for the two scarves.
When I went to bed on my desk there were these two beauties, waiting for the final touch: the wooden buttons, the felt noses and some matching ribbons, to enchance the country style of the wreaths.

A volte mi capita di immaginare un oggetto finito e realizzarlo nel giro di qualche ora, ma mai velocemente come questi!!
Per la ghirlanda beige ero indecisa se abbinare un omino di neve o un gingerbread.... poi ho pensato che di omini di neve non ne faccio mai! Era la sua occasione. Per il gingerbread non è escluso che prima o poi andrà a tenere loro compagnia, chissà....
Vi piacciono??

I sometimes happen to think of a project, see it clearly in my mind and realize it in a couple of hours, but never quickly as this one!
For the beige wreath I have been in doubt for a while if putting on a snowman or a gingerbread, but then I thought I never create snowmen and this one was the perefect occasion!! And maybe the gingerbread will come soon to keep them company!!

Christmas Lab - Pixies and Fairies

Chi aiuta Babbo Natale a riempire la sua slitta di regali?
Chi lo aiuta a controllare sul suo librone chi si è comportato bene durante l'anno e chi invece è stato un po' monello?? Ecco i suoi aiutanti più piccini!

Who helps Santa filling his sledge with presents?
Who helps him control on his big book who's been naughty or nice?
Here we are his tiniest helpers.


Piccole e delicate fatine, con la gonna a palloncino in cotone dalle fantasie natalizie decorata da un giro di pizzo. Hanno le ali larghe in feltro e i capelli raccolti in due codini.

There are small and delicate fairies, with a beautiful lace decorated gown in christmas-themed cotton. They have wide felt wings and ponytails.

Folletti cicciotti che passano il resto dell'anno a sperimentare le migliori ricette di biscotti alle spezie e in questo periodo si affannano intorno ai regali nei loro morbidi vestiti in pile rosso o bianco, decorato da una fascia a fantasie natalizie, bottoncini in tinta e un bordo a pom-pom. In testa portano un alto cappello a punta.

Or there are chubby pixies, who spend the rest of the year tasting the best spices cookies and now they rush around the presents in their soft white or red pile dresses, with a christmassy fabric decoration, matching buttons and pointed hat.

Christmas Lab - Santa Claus (is coming to town)

Iniziamo la carrellata dei personaggi che quest'anno ho creato per Natale!
Beh, primo della lista non può che essere lui, Babbo Natale!
Ho scelto tra i modelli Tilda quello più ciccione che da un po' mi guardava e chiedeva "quando provi a cucirmi??"

Seguendo lo stile nordico ha calzamaglia a righe bianche e rosse, giaccone e pantaloni in morbida lana beige con profili in feltro bordeaux, come il cappello che termina con un sonaglino.
Sia il cappello che gli scarponi hanno un bordo in pelliccia (di lana chiaramente!!).
Ne ho creati per ora due, uno con la barba liscia e uno con la barba più riccia.
Vi piacciono??
La prossima volta vi inizierò a mostrare i suoi piccoli aiutanti!!

Let's start with the stuffed figures I created for this Christmas!
The first one must obviously be Santa Claus himself!
I choose, among the Tilda patterns, the chubbier one, which for some time now was looking at me and asking "when are you going to try and sew me??"
In a pure nordic style, he has red and white striped tights, cream woolen jacket and pantaloons with burgundy felt borders, just like his hat thet ends with a small bell.
Both the hat and the shoes have a border in (woolen) fur.

I have made two of them, so far, one with a more straight beard, the other one is more curly.
Do you like them??

Christmas Lab - il porta-teglia

Seconda idea per qualche regalino natalizio: i porta-teglia.
Sono delle borsine in cotone pesante (mio modello) per trasportare la teglia o la tortiera piena di cose deliziose. Quante volte capita di fare un dolce (o un altro piatto) magnifico e poi presentarsi a casa dell'ospite con il prezioso dono in un sacchetto della spesa????
Con il portateglia risolto elegantemente questo problema!
In un paio di giorni ho preparato questi sette, divertendomi ad abbinare le varie stoffe, nastri, pizzi e bordure. Che ve ne pare??

They're cotton bags (my design) to be used when you have to carry a cake or some other delicious preparation. Does it ever happen to you that you have prepared a yummy pie and you knock the door of your host with your precious content wrapped up in a plastic supermarket bag???
With this baking tray carrier you have solved the problem!!

Christmas Lab - Country Fabric Panels

Buongiorno!
Ma come... già si parla di Natale? Ebbene, quest'anno non voglio farmi trovare impreparata, così ho già iniziato a preparare i miei piccoli lavori, in modo da non dover passare notti alzata a cucire nelle settimane cruciali!

Oggi vi presento il primo dei lavori che della collezione Natale 2013: dei piccoli pannelli da appendere in puro stile country. Country per me sono le distese di grano dell'Oklahoma, le torte di mele del Kansas e la gente genuina che abita da quelle parti.
Ho trovato questo tessuto, della disegnatrice Nancy Halvorsen che per me si abbinava alla perfezione. Ho quindi creato questi piccoli pannelli imbottiti ed impunturati a mano con filo da ricamo in oro o argento, da appendere grazie ad un supporto di legno e un cordino in rafia grezza, il tutto abbellito da bottoni in tinta.
Che ve ne pare? Io mi sono innamorata all'istante di questi soggetti... uno più bello dell'altro!

Well.. are we already talking about Christmas?? Well, this year I want to be well prepared in advance to avoid spending nights sewing in the last weeks before Xmas...
Today I want to show you  some of the works for the Christmas 2013 collection: small fabric panels you can hang on your wall or on a door in a pure country style!

To me country is the wide corn fields in Oklahoma, Kansas's apple pies ad the genuine peopole who live in those lands. I found this fabric by the lovely stylist Nancy Halvorsen that match the country idea perfectly.
So I created these small panels, filled with batting, which can be hung by a small wooden stick and decorated by matching small buttons.
What do you think??? I fell in love with these drawings at one....

A breve poterò anche le foto delle altre creazioni natalizie: Babbi Natale, folletti cicciottelli o alti alti, delicate fatine, angeli un po' vintage, altri piccoli soggetti da appendere all'albero di Natale o a un pacchettino o come decoro per la casa e poi... e poi altre novità in maglia o per la casa!!
